If you collect, store or process sensitive data on your laptop or computer you definitely need to consider encryption. Encryption is usually inexpensive and simple to implement. It would also meet the GDPR Article 32 requirement to use appropriate technical measures to protect your data.

Unfortunately, laptops do get lost and stolen and they are amazingly easy to break into even with a tricky password. Encryption adds another layer of protection and might just foil an attempt to steal the data on your device. Most laptops used for business purposes will have encryption options built in and often a simple setup option selection can turn-on encryption with little effort required by you.
