The UK data protection regime is set out in the DPA 2018 and the UK GDPR. Data protection helps ensure trust between businesses and individuals and keeping data safe.

The DPA 2018 replaced the previous 1988 Data Protection Act and has three distinct sections, some may not apply to you. The sections are for general processing, law enforcement and intelligence organisations. It was last amended on 01 January 2021 to reflect the UK’s status outside the EU.

Sections of the DPA supplement the UK GDPR. This means you need to be familiar with both regulations. We suggest starting with the General Processing section of the DPA as this is where most businesses fall. However, if you’re really not sure where to start, you contact the ICO for help or reach out to us here at Optindigo.

Don’t forget, you may have to comply with both the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR if you operate in Europe, offer goods or services to individuals in Europe, or monitor the behaviour of individuals in Europe! At Optindigo, we will be your EU Representative. We are GDPR experts who can advise you on topics such as the UK DPA. You can set-up your European Representation agreement within five minutes
