GDPR For Taxi Companies
7/16/2019 1:09:30 PM by Adam Brogden
Just like other companies GDPR applies to taxi companies. This might seem over the top but it is very important that you take this seriously and ensure you think about the personal data you hold and check that your systems meet GDPR requirements. Whether you have your own database of customers or use one of the many dispatch systems, you are the data controller.

A Data Breach Is Your Fault!
7/15/2019 3:14:53 PM by Adam Brogden
The ICO is about to fine Marriott hotels almost £100M after a huge data breach. The records of over 300M customers were put at risk due to vulnerabilities in their IT systems. This is pretty exceptional and you might be thinking that this sort of problem will never happen to you, but the point here is more about responsibility.

Cyber Security is absolutely key to every company, just ask British Airways how important. The size of the fine will impact even a huge company like BA and could be financially devastating for some companies.

GDPR Data Protection Impact Assessment
7/8/2019 12:56:23 PM by Adam Brogden
If you use Legitimate Interest as your lawful basis then you must be able to prove that this is a reasonable basis to use. LI is probably the most flexible but is also the most risky since you may need to prove your use of LI is reasonable. That’s where a Data Protection Impact Assessment can help.

What Is Your GDPR Lawful Basis?
7/5/2019 1:14:21 PM by Adam Brogden
Probably the most fundamental part of GDPR is that you must have a lawful basis to process personal data. This is a strange term but is simply means that you need to have an appropriate reason to collect, process, store, buy, sell, or otherwise use personal data.

GDPR Monthly Audit
6/27/2019 2:15:19 PM by Adam Brogden
A key principle of GDPR is accountability. This means that ‘you’ are responsible for ensuring you meet GDPR requirements. To help prove that you have taken these responsibilities seriously you should consider completing an in-house GDPR audit. This doesn’t need to take ages or involve too much effort. A quick run around the office to make sure you are keeping up with your GDPR stuff and you might just spot something you need to fix.

GDPR Accountability
6/25/2019 1:29:19 PM by Adam Brogden
Accountability is a key part of GDPR. Directors, Managers, Employees, and even volunteers are accountable for their actions and even their mistakes and omissions! This might sound a little harsh but accountability is written into the regulations and the ICO has enshrined this principle in their policies and in particular in their enforcement regime.

If you use WeTransfer to send big files watch out for an email reporting an issue on 16th and 17th June. Looks like emails were sent to the wrong people and WeTransfer report that the attached files were downloaded by some of the recipients. Depending on the content of your files this might just represent a data security breach!

GDPR Right To Object
6/20/2019 12:16:19 PM by Adam Brogden
The Right to Object is one of the fundamental rights of a data subject in GDPR and is defined in Article 21. It sounds pretty obvious, giving the subject the right to tell you to stop processing. However this is not quite the case. The Right to Object is not an absolute right and in many cases you do not have to simply stop processing.
